Google Lens is an artificial intelligence-powered technology that uses your smartphone's camera and machine learning to detect things in front of the viewfinder, search what you see, and interact with the world around you using just your phone's camera or a photo. The application also helps you to understand things and provide some actions, such as translation, shopping, scanning codes, etc.
Lens was founded in 2017, and it was an exclusive feature of the Google Pixel phone. And now the Google Lens feature has been delivered to most Android phones. And if you don't find it on your phone, you can download the app through Google Play.
What features does Google Lens have?
Google Lens app has many features:
- Translate: The app helps translate any text, by pointing your phone at the text, and by connecting to Google Translate, it can translate the text directly. This feature can work in offline Wi-Fi mode.
- Smart text selection: Point your phone's camera at a text, then highlight that text inside Google Lens and copy it to use on your phone. For example, point your phone at the Wi-Fi password and then copy and paste it into the Wi-Fi login screen.
- Smart text search: When you highlight text in Google Lens, you can also search for that text using Google. This feature can help you find a definition for a word.
- Shopping: If you see some clothes you like while you're shopping, Google Lens can identify those and similar pieces of clothing. This feature works with just about any item you can think of and helps you access shopping or reviews. This feature is not available in Egypt.
- Google Questions and Answers: You can just scan the question and find out the answer through Google.
- Find things around you: Point the camera around you, and Google Lens will help you recognize your surroundings, and you'll get suggestions based on the object. You can also locate and learn about landmarks, restaurants, and storefronts. You can also see the location's rating and opening hours.
- Know the types of plants and animals from their picture: You can determine the animal or plant species that you see anywhere around you.
- Finding a Look You Like: Want to know what a certain outfit would look like on you? Or do you want to know how well a particular chair matches the living room? You can match what you are looking for in clothes, furniture, and home décor.
- Determine your requests in the restaurant: You can find out the most requested dishes on the menu of a restaurant based on the reviews of the restaurant’s customers on “Google Maps”.
- Code scanning: You can quickly scan QR codes and barcodes.
What devices does Google Lens work on?
If you own an Android phone, you can get the app. But, unfortunately, there are some exceptions, such as phones that are blocked from Google services such as Huawei phones, so you should check if your phone can get the application through Google Play.
How can Google Lens be used?
Google has a standalone Google Lens app on Android phones. You can easily download and install the application on your phone.

You can access the same results as the app by tapping on the Lens icon in Google Assistant. This icon helps you navigate to the same view that you get right in the Lens app.
Google photo
Within Google Photos, Google Lens can identify buildings or landmarks, such as providing directions to users and their hours of operation. They will also be able to provide information on a famous work of art or building.
And when you're browsing your photos in Google Photos, choose an image.
Then tap on the Google Lens icon located at the bottom of the window.
Clicking on the icon will cause scan points to appear on your photo and then Google will give you some suggestions.

If you want to access Google Lens on your iPhone, you can get it via the Google app. This app contains a collection of native Google services on Android devices.
Once you install the app, you can head over to the Google Lens section, and give permission to access your iPhone's camera and turn it off, you'll get all the features of the Google Lens app.

Get information about your photos and everything around you
You can get details or perform any actions on your photos, objects around you, and image searches using Google Lens. Through the following steps:
- Open Google Lens on your phone.
- Then with the Google Assistant: Say "Ok Google" at the bottom left of the screen.
- Then tap the Google Lens icon.
- On some Android phones, like Pixel phones: Open the Google Camera app on your device, Camera App, then More, then Google Lens.
If the Google Lens icon does not appear, Google Lens cannot find information on your phone
- Then point the camera at the item.
- From your phone screen, tap the item you want information about.
- To select text: Tap on a word, tap on it again and drag the blue dots.
- Then tap the speak icon. Ask a question or make a request.
