How to disable Google Meet in Gmail

 During the COVID-19 crisis, companies resorted to working from home to preserve the health of employees and to implement safety rules, all conferences turned into online meetings, through some applications such as Google Meet, Zoom, and many more.


And many technology companies began to update their video applications, to suit the requirements of users and to be able to outperform the rest of the other applications.

Google Meet competes with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, JioMeet, and other video conferencing apps.

Recently, Google introduced a new feature, which is the integration of the Google Meet button in the company's mail application Gmail.

This feature allows users to start a meeting on Google Meet by clicking a button next to the mail button in Gmail for both Android and iOS phones.

But if you don't like this change and want Google Meet and Gmail to work as separate apps, there is a way to remove Google Meet from Gmail.

And in this article, we will tell you how to remove the Google Meet tab from your Gmail mailbox with ease and steps.

How to remove the Google Meet tab from Gmail

At first, you should know that not all users can see the Google Meet tab in the Gmail app on their Android phones or iPhones.

The Google Meet tab is only visible to people who have paid for a G Suite account on their device.

And if you're using Gmail on your computer browser, you can find the Meet tab right on the left, above Hangouts.

You can follow these steps to remove Google Meet from Gmail.

Remove the Google Meet tab from the Gmail app on Android and iOS phones

If you are using the Gmail app on your personal phone whether you are an Android phone user or an iPhone user, and you want to disable the Google Meet tab in your inbox, you can follow these steps:

  • Open Gmail on your personal phone, then go to the Settings section.
  • Then tap on your email address.
  • Then scroll down and locate the Meet tab, and uncheck the Show the Meet tab for video calls.
  • If you have multiple accounts, you will need to disable the Meet tab individually for each of your other email addresses.
  • After doing these steps, the Gmail app will revert to its old design.

Remove the Google Meet tab from Gmail for the web

You can follow these steps to remove the Meet tab in Gmail for web from computers.

Open Gmail on your computer, tap the gear icon to go to Settings, then tap View all settings.

Then click on Chat and Dating, and enable the Hide Meet section in the main menu.

With these steps, you will no longer find the Meet tab in Hangouts.

Google announced on its website:

  • Until September 30, 2020, G Suite customers will have free access to advanced video meeting features in Google Meet, such as meeting with more participants, live broadcasting, and recording.
  • After September 30, the availability of Google Mate features will be determined by the customer's G Suite license agreement. Please note that recorded meetings will still be available in the owner's Drive storage.


By following these simple steps, you will be able to remove the Google Meet tab from Gmail and go back to the old layout.
